Tutorial: How to Save Layouts for the Web in Photoshop: Design House Digital

Judy and I were discussing how we save our files for the Web this weekend. I just stumbled across this blog entry on How to Save Layouts for the Web in Photoshop from Design House Digital. It is similar to what I do, but still different. To avoid the "image exceeds the size" error message, she resizes it before selecting "save for web."

She goes to Image > Image Size and changes the height and width from 3600 x 3600 to something below 1000 x 1000 and also changes the resolution from 300ppi to 72ppi. When she changes the ppi to 72, the height and width of the image automatically changes to 864 x 864. Check out the tutorial for more information.

This challenge is a little different. We are to make a card and matching envelope using our scrapbook supplies. This is a little outside my comfort zone. We'll see what I come up with.

This is Challenge # 11. They provided a template they created. The only problem was that everything were all in the bottom corner. So we havw complete freedom on where to place the elements and what to do with them.

Challenge 10 -- Inspiration

Judy and I selected supplies we both had for this layout. I created my "half" and sent the flattened JPG to Judy who then created her portion and sent the completed 8x8 layout to me as another JPG. I added the title.

ADSR 5.9 - The Color Wheel

Debbie has posted the requirements for this challenge before I butted in and mounted my missing LOs.  My part of the color wheel was blue and Debbie is doing orange.  The subject was Creativity.  We could use a photo or not - I chose not to use a photo for this LO.  Here is my entry:

There were requirements about the number & type of elements we were to use on this LO, just like #6.  I had lots of pictures I wanted to use so I really hated having to use so many elements - would have preferred more room for journaling.  In any case, here it is.

Judy's Bucket List

Sorry it wasn't readable so I'll just paste the list in here.

1. Visit Alaska to complete all 50 states.
2. Ride our motorcycle to Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama & Florida to complete
all 48 states by bike.
3. Hold my first Great-Grandchild.
4. Dance at my oldest Grand-daughter’s wedding.
5. See my oldest child settled & safe.
6. Complete my file cabinet purge.
7. Build a bookcase all by myself.
8. Dispose of 1/3 of my clothes.
9. Get new Will made.
10. Complete my college decree.

ADSR 5.7 - The Bucket List

I thought this one was hard - mostly because they said it had to be realistic - which considering the state of the economy, really puts a crimp in anyone's bucket list (unless you are young and have your whole life ahead of you).  At my age, I've done many of the things I would have on my bucket list if I was writing this 30 years ago.  Here is the LO I came up with - and my list. Hope it is readable.  I made the little stick man and the bucket myself.  First time I've tried that!

Challenge 5.6

Here is my entry for the roadblock, Challenge 6.  Only one of us had to do this one - in which the chosen person  was to use an old photo of herself and one taken within the last year.  I was also to include 10 words that describe myself. Thank goodness this "roadblock" gave Debbie a little time while her mom was in the hospital.

Challenge 9 -- OScraps

The first step of the challenge is to look at the color wheel. You and your partner must choose opposing colors on the wheel, so for example, if you pick blue, your partner must use orange. It should be the predominant color in the layout but it does not have to be the only color used. Please use THIS color wheel to make your selections. As long as you are using opposing colors, they do not have to be in the same band.

The second step is incorporate this quote in some way.
"Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun." - Mary Lou Cook
You can use any part of this quote as your inspiration. For example, you could make a layout about growing. You could make a layout about breaking the rules, etc. You can use any part of the quotes or words from the quote. The quote itself does NOT have to appear on your page.

The third step is to include the following:
You MUST include paint. This item is mandatory.

Then, pick 7 more from this list:

glitter
black and white photo
2 alphas
something metal
stitching
patterned paper
funky font
journaling

Please note that an item does NOT count for more than one category. So, for example, if you were to use a glitter swirl, it would either count for swirls OR glitter, NOT for both. You MUST have different pieces for each of your seven mandatory items. Also, if you decide not to use a black and white photo, that's fine, you can still use color photo(s) or no photo. You can use anything else that you want on your layout as long as you meet the mandatory requirements.

Journaling reads: Soaring above the countryside in a hot air balloon as the sun is setting is one item in my bucket list of things to do before departing this earth.

Someday is my title, which is on the ribbon at the bottom of the picture.

This is a FAST FORWARD Challenge, not that we will be the first to complete it, but the first team to complete this challenge will have the option of SKIPPING next week's challenge if they choose!

The theme for this challenge is "someday." There are very few stipulations about what you need on your layout, but there are a few. It must contain journaling--no limit on how much. Somewhere in your journaling or title we must use "someday." At least 10 elements. Would like the background to be a tone on tone patterned paper. Journaling and title must be two separate items. Would prefer to see a photo, but it's okay if you don't.

The guidelines says to be as creative as possible using the recipe below. We can incorporate other items into our layout, but must use at least 6 of the items listed. Since this is the month of Valentine's Day, our special challenge is to incorporate CHOCOLATE into the layout. So 6 items in the recipe and chocolate!

Challenge 4

As stated in my previous post, Digitals is hosting the fourth stop, which is an intersection. Teams have to collaborate on a set of four Valentine's themed ATC cards.

First, each racer makes one Artist Trading Card on the theme "The One I Love."

Then each racer will make one trading card honoring their ADSR teammate.

Challenge 3 "Sweet" (Selective Coloring

Scrappers Online had the 3rd challenge of ADSR 5. The previous post links to the challenge and the requirements. Basically our layouts had to have a focal photo with selective coloring in it. I took this photo of my youngest grandchildren and selectively colored the pink shirt and denim coveralls and shirt.

The required parts were:

1. One focal photo with selective coloring
2. 20 or more words of journaling with possible highlights (I didn't do the highlights)
3. At least one date element
   

Challenge 3

I can't sleep and been lurking around for a couple hours and finally found challenge 3. I found it at Scrappers Online http://www.scrappersonline.com/forums/printthread.php?t=619&pp=10&page=1.

The required parts are:

1. One focal photo with selective coloring
2. 20 or more words of journaling with possible highlights
3. At least one date element!

Now if I can sleep, I'll think about this tomorrow. I have an idea....stay tuned.

Since Debbie explained the instructions for this challenge, I'll skip that part and just add my layout for our second challenge in ADSR 5. The paper and heart elements were all from the same kit, Brume de Lune by Dilo. The alpha in the title is from the same kit.

Challenge 2 at Digital Artisan Guild

The second stop in ADSR5 was Digital Artisan Guild. They have beautiful guild kits. They called it a recipe challenge. The recipe was a theme of 5 things I LOVE about...

Title: use a combination of 5 fonts and/or alphas (example: use 2 different fonts and 3 different alphas)

Photos: use 5 photos, one of the photos must have the number 5 in it!

Use 5 different elements of the same type (example: use 5 different flowers or 5 different buttons, etc.)

Season to taste: add ingredients from your digital pantry to make this layout your own!

The title was made using (1) Kaatie Pertiet's Baby Buddies Alpha, (2) font outlaw, (3) font Stereofidelic, (4) alpha from Digital Artisan's Best Laid Plans alpha, and font pristina.

Journaling reads: My husband; Our children and their spouses; our 5 beautiful grandchildren; our 3 beagles; Celebrating life's events with family.

I used five different flowers from the Life's events kit.

ADSR 5.1 - Judy's Entry

Here is my first entry for this year's Race. For Debbie's LO I scraplifted, I used one from her personal blog about her favorite pet, Molly. I know she loves all 3 of her beagles but Molly is the oldest, and her dearest. Here is the journaling: "This is the second race that Debbie & I have been partners. We met on a scrapping site in 2008, discovering we lived in the same town. We have many things in common: we both love our animals & are married to our best friends. Scrapping offers our most common interest." I wanted to say so much more, about how we both love to travel and have been all over the US. How Debbie helped me create my blog and how she taught me so much when I was a scrapping newbie.

We're off.....

Surprise! The host of the first stop in the Amazing Digi Scrapping Race 5 was Natural Designs in Scrapbooking. This challenge was to create a layout about our partner, introducing her to the other racers. We could do it anyway we wanted to. We had to include at least one photo of our partner and we also had to choose one of their layouts and scraplift that as our page design.

Registration is open for another season of ADSR. Digi Chick Judy and I have sent in our registration and are awaiting approval. Lisa Kane, who designed our blinkie lst year, has modified it for this season. Please visit her blog.

Natural Designs in Scrapbooking (NDISB), has come up with a cool internet digital scrapping game that mirrors the TV reality show “The Amazing Race.” Teams of two traverse the digital scrapbooking world, site by site, completing challenges and collecting prizes along the way.

Judy and I had blast doing it last year and am anxious for the race to begin.
